Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Assistant 

Job Purposes:  

To provide a clean and safe environment for users of the school buildings and grounds.

To carry out caretaking and a wide range of maintenance duties.

Background: The Brit-Magyar school is a private foundation school which opened in September 2020 in Budapest. The school leadership team and founders are both British and Hungarian with extensive experience in international education. Our vision is to be Hungary’s leading elementary and middle school through a passion for progressive teaching methodology and by providing a broad-based education so students become complete global citizens. We utilise a combination of the Hungarian state bilingual curriculum and we are Hungary’s second bilingual school to be accredited to use the Cambridge International programme for our English curriculum. Our curriculum is supported by all the best learning materials and facilities. 
Reporting To: Directly responsible to the School Directors.  

Key Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

 

Maintenance of Building, Grounds and Equipment

  • Carry out routine inspection of buildings, grounds and ancillary equipment to ensure areas and equipment are in safe order, reporting repairs to the School Directors in a timely fashion.
  • Immediately make safe any hazards and ensure that unsafe areas are cordoned off.
  • Direct contractors to the sites of repair or maintenance work.
  • Carry out first line repairs which are not beyond the scope of an unskilled professional.
  • Prune hedges and trees to prevent any possible hazards to children.
  • Ensure all outdoor areas are free from litter, excessive amounts of soil / leaves, keeping paths free from weeds.
  • Empty dustbins daily

 

General Duties

  • Daily routine cleaning of classrooms and common areas including surfaces, shelves, windowsills, shoe locker surfaces and floors.
  • Twice daily cleaning of bathroom areas, before school and during lunchtimes.

 

  • Weekly cleaning of Fridges and microwaves
  • Monthly deep cleaning of classrooms, bathrooms, inside of shoe lockers, windows, and behind radiators 
  • General porterage duties and moving of furniture, for example laying out and stacking of chairs, desks etc.
  • Preparation of hall for assembly
  • Ensure that clear passage is maintained on fire escape routes.
  • Attending such duties pertaining to the premises as may occur from time to time.
