I was born and raised in South Africa and graduated from the University of Pretoria with a degree in Psychology and Anthropology, and went on to complete a postgraduate certificate (PGCE) in Early Child Development and Primary teaching.
I have been teaching for almost 9 years now, both in South Africa and at a British curriculum school in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. During this time I have had the privilege of teaching children from diverse backgrounds coming from countries all around the world. This I believe to be my most valuable experience as a teacher. My experience working and traveling abroad has resulted in a deeper sense of empathy, compassion and motivation.
I believe that teaching is not just about equipping children with the skills they need now, but inspiring a love for learning that will last a lifetime. My favourite quote by Socrates describes my approach to teaching perfectly: “Wisdom begins in wonder.” I believe that if you can foster a child’s curiosity and nurture their sense of wonder you can cultivate a desire for a deeper understanding of the world around them.
